About Us
Who we are
Minna no Anime (MNA) is the official student-run anime and manga club of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Here at MNA, we strive to provide our members with a truly unique social atmosphere for the discussion and enjoyment of all things related to the Japanese media industry. Since our formation in May of 1991, we continue to be one of the oldest and most active clubs on campus.
Every week at our Saturday meetings from 5 to 10 PM we watch an ongoing schedule of hand-selected anime provided in the highest quality available. These meetings are held in Room 180-101, a large lecture hall that provides a near theater-quality experience. Refer to our Schedule page or the sidebar on the Home page to view our current weekly show lineup.
Wednesdays every week from 7 to 10 PM are for Minna no Hangout, a time where club members meet in a reserved classroom to discuss their favorite anime and manga, as well as do homework, play games, or freely participate in any manner of chosen activities. These are great days to get to know fellow MNA members!
In addition to our weekly meetings, our club hosts a number of special events throughout the year. These include quarterly Movie Nights, club dinners at the local Goshi Japanese Restaurant, and SimulNights, where we stream first episodes of newly-released seasonal anime. Also, October marks our annual Halloween Party, where we feature an entire day of games, panels, and events with our members and alumni!
MNA is all about bringing the intense action, deep romance, and hilarious comedy of your favorite Japanese media to a public setting. Members are not expected to attend all events, so don’t feel overwhelmed! Come make new friends, share stories, and experience anime and manga in a completely new, unique way here at Minna no Anime!
Membership
What makes Minna no Anime work? Its members, of course! It is because of member support that Minna no Anime is able to provide the quality programs that are shown each week. Although membership is optional, it certainly helps the club!
To become a member, just speak with an officer during a meeting. There will also be opportunities at the beginning of each year for everyone to establish or renew their membership. Membership fees are $10.00 per year or $5.00 per quarter.
Membership provides discounts to most everything Minna no Anime provides (e.g. t-shirts), is required for access to the Minna no Anime video library, to win any prizes from Minna no Anime contests, and to run for officer positions. Membership fees also help fund the club activities like the Halloween and Anniversary parties, quarterly dinners, and movies.
